I’m Claire, a writer who lives between Manchester and the Peak District.
Currently studying an MA Creative Writing at the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University and writing my first full-length novel, I’m inspired by a range of literature, including contemporary women’s, dystopian and thrillers.
I’m also the host of the podcast Creatives of Habit. In the podcast I interview writers and other creatives about their routines, processes and rituals to find out how they approach their work, stay motivated to the end and how living a creative life benefits them.

My children’s book
Me and You Versus the World started life as poem for a wedding reading before Sarah-Leigh Wills brought it to life with her beautiful illustrations. You can find out more and buy a copy.

After studying English Literature and training as a broadcast journalist many years ago at the University of Sheffield, I started my career as a digital news and SEO copywriter before moving into PR and communications. After working at some of the leading PR agencies in the north, I moved into freelancing before setting up my own award-winning PR agency, Unhooked Communications. Over the last 14 years, I’ve written articles on behalf of businesses and charities for national, regional, trade and consumer media outlets, as well as other content such as scripts, adverts, white papers, and websites.
I’ve also delivered numerous workshops and training on communications, media and content with organisations including Staffordshire University’s London Digital Institute, Manchester Metropolitan University, Natwest, Google Digital Garage, and Brighton SEO.
Now, as I focus some of my time and creative energy on literature, I’ll be sharing news and inspiration here on this site, as well as selling some of my latest work. You can also follow me on Instagram to see what I get up to.
